If you are in Jávea (Xàbia) in early September, there is one celebration you really shouldn't miss.

The Fiestas de la Mare de Déu de Loreto bring the Port of Jávea and Duanes de la Mar to life with music, family activities, parades, traditional celebrations, fireworks and spectacular events around the waterfront.

The main water fireworks display in Jávea will take place at 00:30 on Tuesday 8 September 2026, over the sea in the Port of Jávea.

This is the spectacular finale to the Mare de Déu de Loreto fiestas, with fireworks launched over the Mediterranean and reflected across the water.

The waterfront and surrounding streets become very busy, so it's worth arriving early and finding a good viewing spot around the Port and Paseo Jaime I.

The Best Events of the Loreto Fiestas 2026

The official programme runs across several days, but we've picked out the events that we think will be particularly enjoyable for families and visitors to Jávea.

Thursday 3 September – A Journey to the Stars

Something a little different takes place on Thursday 3 September.

A travelling planetarium will be set up on Severo Ochoa Street, giving children, families and anyone fascinated by the night sky the chance to explore the moon and stars.

Sessions run from 11:00 to 13:30 and again from 17:00 to 19:30.

Later, at 20:30, the Jaume I promenade hosts Una ventana al mar — “A Window by the Sea”, a concert by the Rondalla de Gata de Gorgos.

It's a lovely combination of music and the seaside setting of Duanes.

Saturday 5 September – Children's Day

Saturday 5 September is dedicated to children and is one of the most fun days of the celebrations.

The day starts at 09:30 with a traditional children's despertà, followed by hot chocolate, traditional games and activities around Duanes.

At 11:00, Avenida Jaime I turns into a huge children's play area with water games adapted for different ages and a foam party — a brilliant way to cool down in the September sunshine.

And there's more.

At 14:00, children are treated to paella, soft drinks and ice cream on Severo Ochoa Street.

In the evening, the celebrations continue with the Grand Parade of Floats at 19:30. Colourful floats, children, festival representatives and local groups make their way through the streets of Duanes, accompanied by the characteristic humour and satire of the local associations.

The day finishes with live music from the Vértigo orchestra from 23:30 until 04:00.

Sunday 6 September – Flowers & Traditional Serenades

Sunday brings one of the more traditional and atmospheric parts of the fiestas.

At 19:30, the Flower Offering to the Virgin of Loreto takes place, with residents, local associations and festival groups bringing flowers to the patron saint.

Then, at 23:00, the Serenade to the Festival Leaders begins at the Parroquia del Mar, the beautiful church overlooking the Port.

Musicians and singers make their way through Duanes performing traditional serenades, before the Festival Leaders and Festival Committee host a reception.

For visitors, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience the more traditional and intimate side of Jávea's fiestas, rather than simply the large outdoor concerts and parties.

Monday 7 September – Fire, Music & The Fire of the Sea

The evening of Monday 7 September is one of the most spectacular moments of the fiesta programme.

After the traditional religious celebrations and procession of the Santíssim Crist de la Mar, the celebrations continue late into the evening.

Fireworks over Duanes Bay

At 00:00, the Albà de la Mare de Déu de Loreto begins with a dazzling fireworks display illuminating Duanes Bay.

And that's not the end.

Immediately afterwards comes “El Foc de la Mar” – The Fire of the Sea, a spectacular correfoc by Xarxa Teatre. A correfoc, meaning “fire run”, is a spectacular Valencian and Catalan tradition where performers take to the streets surrounded by fireworks, flames and sparks, accompanied by drums and music. It is a thrilling, very local fiesta experience and definitely not something you see every day!

The fire procession begins on Avenida Lepanto and makes its way through the streets towards the seafront.

This is one of the most unusual and visually spectacular events of the fiestas.

Tuesday 8 September – The Big Finale

8 September is the Day of the Mare de Déu de Loreto, the patron saint of Duanes de la Mar.

The evening begins with the solemn procession of the Mare de Déu de Loreto at 20:00, passing through the streets of the Port area.

Then comes the moment that many people associate with the Loreto fiestas:

00:30 – The Famous Jávea Fireworks on the Sea

At 00:30, the sensational water fireworks display takes place over the Mediterranean.

This is the main Jávea fireworks display on the sea in 2026 and marks the official conclusion of the fiestas.

The combination of fireworks, the sea and the lights of the Port makes this one of the most spectacular nights of the year in Jávea.

The celebrations don't stop immediately afterwards — the orchestra continues playing until 03:00.

Where are the Loreto Fiestas held?

The celebrations are centred around Duanes de la Mar, the historic Port area of Jávea.

Many of the events take place around Avenida Jaime I, Severo Ochoa Street, Paseo Pintor Joaquín Sorolla and the Port waterfront.

If you're staying in the Arenal or Jávea Old Town, it's worth making the trip to the Port for the main events. During the busiest evenings, expect large crowds and some temporary road closures.
