Moraira to Javea, by Boat

Daryl was our skipper for the day and he provided us with a perfect opportunity to sample the sounds, sights, snorkeling and views from the water of some of the best coastline in the Mediterranean.

Moraira to Javea by Boat

The sea was ideal condition, calm, the weather sunny and hot, 29c. Our day started with a 30 minute cruise north to Granadella bay.

We fitted the marks and snorkels and braved the deep seas in the bay of Granadella. Soon hundreds of blue and yellow fish were surrounding us, thanks to Daryl throwing slices of bread into the water around us. We had a feeding frenzy of these wonderful fish, like piranhas, only they weren’t taking bites out of us.

It really makes you feel hungry when you are messy about on the sea and the smell of fresh, cool air. Our appetites were soon relieved by the ample supplies of chicken and salad sandwiches, ham and cucumber rolls, and drinks. Remember to block up well with the factor 30+suntan lotion, as without you being aware and because of the cool sea breezes, you can suffer from bad sunburning.

We had a sighting of a large flying fish, off the starboard bow. But, sadly no sightings of dolphins or whales, which frequent this area of the Mediterranean.

After another dip in the bay of Portichol/Portitxol, where the waters were shallow and crystle clear The chicken wing bones provide us with some extra light entertainment. When a bone was thrown into the water one of the blue fish would catch it in its mouth, not unlike a dog, and then the other fish would chase the leading ‘bone in the mouth fish’, trying to snatch the bone from its mouth. This provided us with hours of fun, well 5 minutes actually. You may have heard of the dangers of eating fish and getting bones stuck in your mouth, well have you ever heard of a fish getting a chicken bone stuck in its mouth? The simple pleasures of simple minds…..
