Holidays in Javea

The lovely town of Javea is situated 80km to the north east of Alicante on the northern Costa Blanca, between the resorts of Denia and Altea. It is set between the 2 bays of San Martin and San Antonio, in a region with stunning scenery. It stands in the shadow of the Montgó Mountain which is a dramatic backdrop to the town. Javea is divided into 3 separate sections, these being Javea Pueblo (the old town), Javea Puerto which is the harbour area and the Playa de Arenal, which is the main sandy beach area, located 3km from the port along a rocky beach. The Arenal beach stretches for 300 metres, with parasols and sunbeds for hire, as well as several children`s play areas. There is also a crazy golf and go-karting area close to the beach. There is plenty to see and do in and around Javea. The Avenido de Mediterraneo is where most of the restaurants and bars are located, offering a range of excellent local and international cuisine.

The old town of Javea is a great place to discover, with it´s beautiful white-washed buildings with Gothic details. There is also an indoor food market which is open 6 days a week in this part of the town. There are some fascinating sites worth visiting, including the Iglesia de San Bartoleme, a 12th century church, as well as the Soler Blasco museum, located in the Plaça dels Germans Segarra, 1. The museum holds many treasures including centuries old jewellery.

The tourist information office is located in Calle Major where the visitor can obtain information on some of the lovely walks which can be made from Javea. The views from Cabo de San Antonio are stunning and can be reached by car or on foot via the path running from the pretty harbour in the port of Javea.

The area around Javea is well known for it´s excellent climatic conditions for snorkeling, scuba diving and cave diving, there are several dive centres in the town. We can thoroughly recommend Javi of Diving Javea (www.divingjavea.com), a highly experienced diver and instructor, his premises are located on Carretera del Portitxol, 105, next to Urb Toscamar.

For visitors who enjoy a round of golf, there are 13 good golf courses in Costa Blanca, the nearest being the Club de Golf de Javea, a 9 hole golf course.

So many people have fallen in love with Javea that they have purchased second homes in the area and there is a large and well established ex-pat community here. For those people considering buying property in the area, they can be guaranteed a warm welcome, with many societies, groups and clubs of different nationalities, which will make them feel at home and give them a warm welcome.

There are some fabulous views to enjoy around Javea. By taking the coastal road to Denia and Gandia, you will pass many superb beaches which make a great place to stop off, enjoy a cold drink or a meal and cool off with a dip in the Mediterranean. Holiday accommodation in Javea focuses mainly on self catering apartments and villas with private pools, although there are a few hotels close to the beach. The nearest airports are Alicante and Valencia.
