Oliva Computers
Hi Guys
eh? Why is the summer still here? I was hoping it was going to cool down a bit in the shop but it seems like the summer is set to hold on for a couple of weeks more. Well, that's why we come to Spain... isn't it?
Well you're here now so why don't you enjoy it a little bit longer by taking a trip to the Gandia Area Social Club (International) Auction Sale to be held at Restaurante Viva Espana Oliva on
Saturday 7th October. Goods to be entered between 10am & 12noon. Viewing between 12noon and 2pm. Sale commencing at 2pm. Proceeds go to charity, refreshments available.
For more information contact David Tel: 96 287 8298. You can also find out more about the GASC at their website http://www.gandiaareasocialclub.com Events like this can be added FREE to the Spanishbrits Events Calendar. The SpanishBrits Events Calendar is primarily to publicise events that may be useful for the Ex-Pat community in Spain.
Click on the WHATS ON EVENTS CALENDAR link on the right of the page at http://www.olivacomputers.com/ Special Offer Laptops From time to time we get special offers from our
suppliers and we pass them straight on to you guys. Currently we have 2 Acer laptops with decent specs available from 750 and 775 euros. These offers don't last long so if you are interested, take a look at the spec from the online shop link at http://www.olivacomputers.com/laptops.shtml
WH Smiffs up and running Last month we introduced WH Smiffs in Oliva. They now have a proper phone number 96 285 1231 and their Internet Cafe is going full speed with a 10Mb adsl connection!
After a completely full first day in the Internet Cafe they are going to increase from 6 PCs to 10. Pricing is currently set at 1 euro per hour which is very reasonable considering these are the latest XP computers with TFT flat screens and of course the ultra fast connection. And to top it all off you can enjoy a jammy dodger or chocolate chip cookie while your surfing or gaming online.
Tuning House The Tuning House is a new Bar in Oliva Playa very near to where the old Pau Pi hotel used to be. Run by the Brothers Grim formerly of the Bar Major in Oliva, the Tuning House is a fun pub with railway carriage seating, an old car made into a table top, pool, music and very soon.... you guessed it.. an Internet Cafe! I'll report the telephone number next month when they are connected. Meanwhile get yourself down there any day of the week.
Virgin Galactic No its not a joke. Richard Bransons latest venture is Virgin Galactic. Already in production are 5 space Ships which will be capable of carrying 2 pilots and 6 passengers to an altitude of 140 kilometers. The Space Ships are expected to be ready by 2009 with tickets at around 100,000 pounds. So when you get fed up of the Costa Blanca and feel like a little trip then you can head off to the New Mexico Desert to pick up the next Space Ship flight with Virgin Galactic.
And so that you don't get bored on your trip you can buy a 2Gb IPOD Nano capable of storing 500 tunes or a 4Gb Ipod Nano capable of storing 1000 tunes to ease your journey. Check out Accessories on the http://www.olivacomputers.com website.
Live UK Television Channels Online Well, we have been waiting and waiting for the Live UK Tv to come back online with promises in August then early September but this time the report is that they have installed new servers and will be up and running again in October for definate. More Trivia An alternative battery is being developed by scientists at MIT in the U.S. The Micro Engine is based on a Gas Turbine Engine on Silicon Chips (believe it!). Current laptop batteries last between 1-3 hours. The new Microengines are estimated to last 15-20YEARS!. Sounds good enough to me. Expect to see this technology commercially in 3-5 years. Oliva Computers are taking pre-orders now.
Microsoft Update On a more serious issue, security of your PC. Microsoft have released a new security update which patches a hole in Internet Explorer (the software used to browse the internet). Most Windows XP machines are set to download the latest updates automatically but did you realise that its not always automatic that these updates are installed onto your machine. From time to time you will see a yellow shield in the bottom right corner of your screen. It may be there to inform you that the updates need to be installed. All you have to do is click the option to install and Windows will do the rest. Failure to do this could leave your machine open to all sorts of nasties. If you need advice, just give us a call.
If you still have Windows 98 then you are on your own because even Microsoft don't support it now.
I hope this email finds you all well.
