The town of Alicante

Close to Javea is the town of Alicante, Spain. Located in Eastern Spain along the Costa Blanca, Alicante is similar to Javea in regards to tourism and a desirable real estate market. Expatriates and tourists come from all over the world to visit the historical town of Alicante, which is famous for its beaches and historic buildings (including a castle atop a mountain, which overlooks the city). Currently, many investors are discovering that real estate in Alicante is most desirable.

Alicante strikes an unlikely balance with an old-fashioned Spain and a modern day Spain. Although there are many comfortable amenities in the town, historic architecture has been preserved and remains for all to see today. One of the most famous constructions in Alicante is the Iglesia de Santa Maria, an elaborate church that was built over 400 years ago. In addition to churches, Alicante is filled with historic statues, monuments and old manor houses. Fans of architecture and students of history would have many days filled when sightseeing in Alicante.

One of the first things a visitor may spot when arriving in Alicante is the Castillo de Santa Barbara, a medieval castle that overlooks the seaside town. It is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe, which speaks volumes of its historical significance. Tourists are allowed to walk through the castle for free, so it would be a shame to visit Alicante and not see its resident fortress. If a medieval castle isn't enough to satisfy history buffs, the town is also rich with museums and art galleries.

Beaches and coves are one of the main reasons for visiting any town on the Costa Blanca and Alicante has its fair share of fine ones. The Playa de San Juan is the main beach in Alicante and is considered to be one of the best in Europe. Smaller, secluded coves are also peppered through the area and they all boast amazing opportunities for water sports and activities. Many restaurants and bars are located within walking distance of the beaches, which is by design for the convenience of the town's beachcombers.

Architecture isn't the only draw to Alicante. As it is on the Costa Blanca, the mild climate is as beautiful as its beaches. The population is surprisingly small for a town of its significance, too (approx. 300,000). However, the town will be much more occupied during tourism season in the summer. It will be in the summer when many of the town's famous fiestas are held, too. Those visiting or living in Javea should make the trek to Alicante, as it is a unique town with many impressive sights to see.
